For any exercise plan to be successful, it is important that you understand exactly what results you are trying to achieve.
Maybe you are putting the program together yourself. Or perhaps you are working with a personal trainer. Either way, it is also important that you understand what you are getting yourself into and how to do it.
If you fully understand what you are doing and why you are doing it, you are more likely to achieve the results that you want.
WHY HAVE A PLAN
What’s wrong with just going to the gym and working out without having an actual exercise plan?
Well, a plan will be developed specifically to help you achieve your health, fitness and body goals. Having a plan will also help to keep you on track.
It is there to help you learn the basics of exercise in a simple and straightforward way so that you can build a healthy and sustainable lifestyle.
A successful workout plan will not only teach you what kind of exercise is most effective for the goals that you are trying to achieve. It should also help you to enjoy the process.
WHAT SHOULD A GOOD PLAN INCLUDE
A good plan offers basic fundamentals, as well as the latest strategies and techniques in modern exercise that are tailored to your specific goals.
Let’s say that your goal is to lose weight and tone up. Your plan should be built around that specific goal.
So you would see workouts like High Impact Interval Training (HIIT) and low resistance, high repetition weights that tone and sculpt.
What you shouldn’t see is a lot of heavy resistance and low repetitions which builds muscle mass.
The plan should include demonstrations of how to perform exercises with the correct form. With the correct form, you can avoid injury and achieve the optimal results.
If you have any mobility issues or can’t correctly perform the exercises, variations should be included in your workout program.
When you are working out with the incorrect form, you could potentially do more harm than good to your body. Also, you are unlikely to see results so it is important to get the form right.
Most importantly, a good trainer will design a fitness program that is focused on the type of workouts that you like. That way, that you can enjoy the process of achieving your ideal body.
