Exercise That Keeps Your Soul Happy

When you think of exercise, do you think about slogging it out in a busy gym?

Pouring with sweat, surrounded by the body beautiful and wishing you were anywhere else?

Perhaps you envision getting up at 6am to go running before work, when it’s cold and wet, you’re tired and fed up.

No wonder you’re putting off wanting to exercise!

The truth is, exercise really doesn’t have to be a chore.

It genuinely can be something that’s fun and enjoyable, that you actually want to do and that makes your body feel good.

Here are some exercises that are good for the body and good for the soul.

Dog Walking

Walking is one of the best forms of exercise.

It’s free, it’s accessible and you don’t need any special equipment- perhaps just a good pair of wellington boots in the winter!

It’s good for just about every muscle in your body.

However walking by yourself can feel a little aimless, and if you don’t have anyone to walk with you it might be something you have put off.

But walking a dog is a completely different experience. When you know they are getting something out of it, it can actually make it more enjoyable for you.

If you’ve been considering adopting a dog for a while then this could be a sign that now is the time?

As well as providing them with a happy life, they will encourage you to get more exercise and yours will be more fulfilling too.

Otherwise, why not walk a loved one’s dog, or even a neighbour’s? They will be glad of the help and it’s something that benefits you both.

When you’re walking a dog you’ll probably find yourself walking further and for longer, exploring places you might not have thought to go on alone.

You’ll get some fresh air, enjoy the sights and know that you’re making a furry little creature happy in the process.

What could be better?!

Dancing

When you feel happy, what do you do?

Chances are, you turn up your music and dance!

Dancing uses lots of different muscles in the body and gets your heart pumping, but will get you smiling in the process.

You could have a dance at home, or you could join a dance workout class.

Zumba, dance fitness, even pole dance fitness lessons exist these days!

Regardless of what kind of dance you enjoy there will be something for you, so whether you go with a partner, friend or by yourself, it’s a fantastic way to increase your fitness.

Swimming

Because swimming supports the weight of the body, it’s something that even those with joint problems can do.

If you’re unable to walk, run, bike or perform other kinds of exercises due to musculoskeletal issues then swimming could be for you.

There’s something about splashing around in a pool that’s reminiscent of childhood.

You could do some laps, or bring a young family member with you and just swim and splash around together.

You’ll still burn lots of calories and get your body moving without it feeling like hardcore exercise.

What exercise do you enjoy doing? Let me know in the comments…
